Masters of London 2016: Who will follow in Djokovic’s footsteps?
2016-11-10Murray-Djokovic : The favourites
Andy Murray to win his 1st title?
When speaking about the Masters we must start with the new world No.1 Andy Murray. Unable to reach the semifinals in 2014 and 2015, the recent winner of Paris-Bercy (6-3 / 6-7 / 6-4 against Isner) will arrive this year as the favourite, relative in his 1st place ATP ranking. Wimbledon winner, three Masters 1000 and the Rio Olympics, he has had a tremendous year in terms of the game and titles. Be wary however as he has been placed in a very difficult group titled the "McEnroe" group, along with Nishikori, Wawrinka and Cilic. His final victory is proposed Andy Murray 5/4.
Djokovic, will he regain his crown?
Andy Murray is the favourite, as the Scotsman has become the leader in the ATP rankings, but also and especially because Djoko has not had such a flourishing season compared to that of last year. Despite being the winner of the Australian Open, French Open and 4 Masters 1000, he seemed fatigued and out of breath at the end of the sporting year, and is probably less motivated than usual. Unable to win a major title since the Rogers Cup in July, he is due to get revenge in London , especially since we all know that it is still possible for him to regain the title of world number 1 with a victory here in the final.Djokovic offered to odds at 11/8..
His group, composed of Monfils, Raonic and Thiem, seems more favourable than Murray’s.
Monfils and Wawrinka, hopeful victors
After winning 7 times in 16 matches against Murray, Stan Wawrinka could be the catalyst in the McEnroe group. Winner of the US Open this season, and also tournaments in Dubai and Chennai, he is very hard to beat on hard surfaces. His victory has odds of Wawrinka 8. As will everyone, he will be trying to finish 1st in his group. Wawrinka to win McEnroe 4).
On the other side of the coin there is Monfils. This is another opportunity to win big from a small bet as he has odds of (Monfils 25) Although he did not have such a fruitful year in terms of silverware, winning only in Washington, the Parisian has produced great performances. Semi-finalist of the US Open, and finalist in Monte Carlo, he has had a good season in general and will not be outdone by his opponents, Milos Raonic and Dominic Thiem without a fight. And even if he is faced with the "Djoker" we know his spirit and his ability to perform on the big stage, no doubt he will take upon himslef to put it up to the Serb.
Finally, it’s worth noting that the best odds on the market are Nishikori 1st in McEnroe 11/2 for Nishikori and Cilic 13/2 to Cilic in the group "McEnroe" and then 5 to Raonic and Thiem 7 to Thiem in the group "Lendl.
