After struggling to edge out Spain through penalties and advance to the quarter finals of this year's World Cup, hosts Russia are now lined up to play Croatia, who made the round of eight after taking out Denmark 3-2 in penalty shoot-outs. Russia started their group stage matches with victories over Saudi Arabia and Egypt before falling to Uruguay. They then went on to evict Spain, keeping the home fans' hopes of a first title alive. Next opponents Croatia had a perfect show in the group stage, winning all three of their matches. They first Nigeria 2-0 before giving a surprise 3-0 humbling to Argentina. Their third group match, against Iceland ended in a 2-1 victory for Croatia.
